Lifestyle Brand Playboy Officially Joins the Metaverse with the Playboy MetaMansion

With many major brands jumping into the metaverse hype, it comes as no surprise that lifestyle brand Playboy would make a switch into the Web3 space. Playboy will take its iconic creation, the Playboy mansion, to the Sandbox metaverse.

Within the metaverse, the Playboy mansion will be dubbed the ‘MetaMansion,” as revealed by Sandbox in a tweet.

“Anybunny home? We’re teaming up with none other than…. @playboy!” the official Sandbox account tweeted. “Together, we will be creating a Playboy MetaMansion social game inside #TheSandbox with #NFT collectibles & special experiences for the Rabbitar @PlayboyNFTs community!”

Sandbox’s announcement revealed that the MetaMansion would be conducting mini-games within the metaverse along with the typical features of hosting exclusive social gatherings and events.

The collaboration builds on Playboy’s previous attempt to establish itself within Web3 through non-fungible token (NFT) collections in collaboration with the creative platform Centerfold.

Playboy also announced it would launch NFTs centered around the brand’s seven-decade-old history.

“We’re thrilled to work with The Sandbox and its best-in-class design and development team to build a premium, customized Playboy gaming and social experience in the metaverse,” said Rachel Webber, chief brand and strategy officer at Playboy.

“The opportunity to create the environment in a way that more people can step into now in a virtual space, and to do it in a really contemporary way is something that we’re really excited to bring to life,” she continued.

“Playboy has been at the forefront of innovation in the entertainment, gaming, art, and celebrity industries for close to seven decades, and The Sandbox continues this legacy by providing a dynamic platform for the next generation of creativity.”

The Sandbox COO and Co-Founder returned Webber’s enthusiasm, saying, “We’re pleased to bring its rich archive of content into the metaverse and enable true fans to become virtual neighbors of this iconic brand during a future upcoming LAND sale in Q3 2022.”

Despite only recently joining the metaverse, Playboy was initially one of the pioneering companies to enter the Web3 market in the spring of 2021. It launched its first NFT collection, Liquid Summer, which sold out in less than three minutes.

Playboy followed Liquid Summer with the NFT collection Playboy Rabbitars, which debuted in October 2021.
